The current global financial crisis has been compared to the Great Depression of the 1930s.  Many news and journal articles have been written on the multiple similarities that brought about both economic crises and the resulting global fallout.

Economic experts Experian have warned that one in seven retail sites, or about 135,000 outlets, could be unoccupied by the end of 2009 as growing numbers of shops are driven out of business by the economic downturn and that vacancy rates on Britain's shopping streets would reach a record 15 percent by the end of this year, up from 7 percent.
