What is Weather?

We see and feel weather conditions every day. We feel if it is hot, cold or warm outside. We see the rain, the wind blowing and sometimes we even experience snow in Shanghai. As you study weather, you will learn how to use your senses (sight, smell, touch, hearing, even taste...ever caught a snowflake on your tongue?) plus weather tools to understand more about weather and how it works.

Weather Balloon

Weather balloon launch: This weather balloon is one of several unmanned driftsonde balloons that were launched from Zinder, Niger. Each balloon carries a gondola (not seen) containing instrument packages, which are dropped into storms in the tropical Atlantic region. Each dropped package collects information about temperature, relative humidity and wind characteristics, allowing researchers to determine which storms could become hurricanes.
