Charles (John Huffman) Dickens, born 1812, was at the time of his writing the most widely-read Victorian novelist, and likely still is. He is famous for both his humorous and his dark works, especially because of their insightful social criticism. He was also a husband, father, publisher, and adored public figure until his death in 1870.
